In 16th season of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ a country music singer, and a Disney channel actress have emerged as contenders who fight each week for the leader board’s top spot.
This week, Disney channel actress Zendaya Coleman earned a nearly perfect score for her cha cha with partner Valentine Chmerkovskiy. Val Chmerkovskiy plants a kiss on Zendaya’s hand during their cha-cha on Monday night’s (April 22) Dancing With The Stars in Los Angeles.
Kellie Pickler and Aly Raisman performed a team dance that earned top honors from the judges.Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas get close on the dance floor on Monday night’s (April 22) Dancing With The Stars in Los Angeles. The twosome wowed the judges with a foxtrot to Stevie Wonder‘s “Isn’t She Lovely?” and brought in 27/30 points!Aly and Mark also danced a Samba side-by-side with Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough, Sean Lowe and Peta Murgatroyd, and Andy Dick and Sharna Burgess. The team earned 23 points.
“The team dance was so much fun!!! I love dressing up like a 70′s chickThe fan favorite team earned a total of 29 points for their dance set to Stevie Wonder‘s “Do I Do.”“There’s one word that sums up great dancing: Zendaya,” judge Len Goodman shared after her performance.Zendaya and Val also took the floor for a group Paso Doble set to “Higher Ground”.
The three women remain close in the competition, which last night featured live performances from Stevie Wonder.
Coleman’s cha cha was “sharp and clean” with “slick hip action,” the judges said. Her contribution to the paso doble team dance was strong, they added, but Coleman’s team’s overall performance was a “sloppy” mess that cost her a few points.
“You have to be careful not to lose sync,” judge Bruno Tonioli said. “You lost sync a few times.”
Pickler and Raisman delivered a strong team samba with help from comedian Andy Dick and XX, and earned high individual performance scores.Pickler’s quickstep was “the best dance” of Season 16, judge Len Goodman said.“You had perfect posture, perfect nuance, perfect synchronicity,” said judge Carrie Ann Inaba who took issue with the consistency of Pickler’s distance from partner Derek Hough.
The judges praised Raisman for her high-energy foxtrot with partner Mark Ballas. Goodman told Raisman that she must work on her technique and keep her hips tucked underneath her while she performs. Judge Bruno Tonioli simply told Raisman she must work on her frame.
“You’re an understated performer,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. “But I can see you’re heading toward perfection.”
